《残机0》的日文原名为：ザンキゼロ，Zanki意指“剩下的生命”，最初是在飞行弹幕游戏中的词语，后来也被引用到RPG游戏中，所以“Zanki Zero”的意思应该是游戏只有一条命。游戏发生在一个遭到毁灭的世界，讲述8名幸存者的故事，而官方发布的游戏宣传图上，就出现了年龄性别各异的这几位主角。
